This is a quarterly magazine produced for the Australian Council of Deans of Science. The aim is to expose the impact of university science on innovation, entrepreneurship and employment. I started this magazine from its initial launch, working with publishing agency Refraction Media. I am still the art director of this title.
I met up with Heather Catchpole from Refraction Media to discuss the launch of this title. All content was ready for me, but the client did not have any firm direction for branding or print medium. Therefore we looked around at other science magazines, to get a strong idea for the style. We took the creative elements of Wired Magazine, and lined this up with the straight design of business titles such as Forbes. From here I created a clean, clear layout that was still bright enough to catch the eyes of readers.
Jon developed a new style that modernises the look of Australian university science while maintaining the prestige, cutting-edge brand. Each issue examines an area of critical importance and client feedback on the approach and design execution has been consistently excellent.
